LSA Umberto Collection
Evocative of antique apothecary jars - the tall, rounded, hand-finished vessels that once held herbs, tinctures and remedies in traditional pharmacies - the Umberto Collection is a group of mouth-blown vases made and finished entirely by hand by master glassblowers. The scissor-cut rim gives the top edge its characteristic thick, rounded soft look. Because every piece is shaped individually, no two Umberto vases are exactly alike. Slight differences in form, proportion and finish occur naturally as part of the making process, providing part of the collection's identity. The vases suit tall stems and branches, but they also work beautifully as sculptural pieces in their own right, used empty on a mantelpiece or bookcase. The collection is named in tribute to a sense of old-world Italian craftsmanship, bringing that sensibility into a contemporary domestic context while retaining the honest handmade character of traditional glassblowing.
