A single exceptional piece - a scissor-cut cakestand measuring 40cm in diameter, a king among cakestands. Producing a mouth-blown glass plate of this size requires significant dexterity and experience, and the piece can only be shaped by the most skilled glass craftsmen. The thick stem and disc-shaped foot are applied by hand, joining the components into a single continuous piece. Scissor-cutting is the most skilled of finishing techniques - the top edge of the glass is reheated until semi-molten, and the worker then cuts away the excess glass around the rim, leaving the thick rounded soft-looking finish that defines the piece. Konstantin is not for every table or every occasion. It is a cakestand for the moments when scale, ambition and unmistakable craft are exactly what the occasion calls for.
