Award-Winning by Design: Six LSA Collections

Award-Winning by Design: Six LSA Collections

Time to read 3 min

When it comes to design, we begin with people: the purpose a piece will serve and the environment it will live in, with the aim of enhancing the simple rituals of daily life. From there, designers and makers work side by side, prototyping to test one concept and one technique against another. Shapes are refined, proportions balanced, colours chosen with meticulous attention. Many of the products that emerge have been recognised internationally, by iF Design, and most consistently by The Good Design® Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

The Award-Winning Collections

UTILITY — Good Design Award Winner (2016 and 2017)

UTILITY celebrates the meeting of form and function. Stepped, mouth-blown silhouettes are given depth by subdued cased colours, while melted soft rims, hand-applied handles and hand-formed spouts reveal the maker's hand in every piece. Drinkware made for daily use that reads as quietly architectural on the table.

CANOPY — iF Design Award Winner (2019)

Made from 100% recycled glass in collaboration with the educational charity the Eden Project. Locally sourced, discarded jars and bottles are sorted, crushed and melted before being mouth-blown into domed forms inspired by the Eden Project Biomes. Textured finishes and undulating rippled rims give each vase, planter and closed garden its own character, much like the individual transformation from seed to plant, and back again. A proportion of every sale is donated to the Eden Project.

CASK — Good Design Award Winner (2021)

Whisky drinkware built on geometry. Straight-sided decanters are paired with a heavy-based tumbler carrying a cube-shaped impression, a quiet nod to a single large ice cube. Each stopper is ground by hand to fit the neck of its own decanter, and the ash wood serving tray is finished in dark cork veneer.

ARC — Good Design Award Winner (2023)

A soft, arching silhouette that sits in the palm of the hand and conveys a sense of welcome, warmth and togetherness. Fine walls and stems give the collection its relaxed, delicate presence, while rounded tumblers and highballs stack neatly away. Three new stemware pieces have recently joined the family.

TERRAZZA — Good Design Award Winner (2023)

Floor and table planters conceived for cultivating green life indoors. Mouth-blown vessels with melted rims sit atop powder-coated steel columns, elevating large plants to eye level. A narrow open channel in the steel base limits the light reaching the roots, a horticultural need resolved as a design detail.

VICTORIA — Good Design Award Winner (2024)

Created in tribute to the late florist Victoria Taberer-Bond, a long-standing partner and friend to LSA whose vivid style challenged uniformity. The mouth-blown vases take their cue from florists' conical metal containers: inward and outward tapers for varying displays, wide flat collars to accentuate an arrangement, and forms versatile enough to be used as lanterns. For every vase sold, a donation is made to the cancer charity Sarcoma UK in her memory.

FOLK — Good Design Award Winner (2024)

Colourful striped vases and decorative objects inspired by traditional Polish Łowicki fabrics. Solid, coloured glass rods are fused with a gather of clear glass and then mouth blown into a bespoke mould. The skilled, handmade process produces distinctive folk-inspired patterns and organic forms, with no two vessels ever being the same.

Made Well, from Materials That Last

We use traditional methods to bring original designs to life. More than fifty years of collaborating with craftsmen has taught us to design almost intuitively to the strengths of each material. Our mouth-blown glass is made by teams of experienced glassblowers, each owning a different element of the process, and finished by hand while the glass is still hot. Scissor cutting is among the most skilled of those techniques. Alongside glass, our wood is responsibly sourced and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council®, seasoned and cured to maintain its texture and durability. Each wood possesses its own unique characteristics with the natural grain.

Designed to Endure

Thoughtful, considered design. Sixty years in, that is still the whole of it. Creating designs for the way people live to elevate everyday moments.
